Why I can't leave

Right now, even if I could make a decision, I can't leave. Or I guess I should say I choose not to leave (because there really is no such thing as I can't) for the following reasons:

1. I've done the math, looked at the day cares and the apartments. I can not do it alone on my salary with 2 kids. The day care alone will take over 1/2 of my paycheck. Right now DP's disability pays the mortgage and she takes care of the kid(s). After taxes, mandatory state retirement participation, medical, dental, vision, and life insurances I have enough to pay for food, utilities, other bills and the cars and car insurance.

2. The house - we would have to sell the house - same deal, I can't afford the house and daycare nor can I keep up with the house and yard work alone. DP can't afford to live on her own in the house either. The housing market sucks and I'd be lucky if I get what I have out in a mortgage right now. Which means I would lose the $40,000 I put down when we bought it from the sale of my other house. Since we (foolishly I might add) spent all our savings trying to have a baby I'd really like to have the cash from my house to put away even if I were to go to an apartment first.

3. The cars. I couldn't afford to take the car that has a loan on it and the other car is 10 years old so I won't get far in it and would eventually need a new one.

4. The dogs. We have six and if I were lucky I could take one to an apartment. DP could maybe take one. I'm not sure I can live with sending the rest to shelters knowing full well that with their age and temperament they would be euthanized.

5. And good or bad. We've been through a lot together. For over 6 years. Granted, a lot of it has been bad, really tough times. But there have been good times too. I can't bear to think that all we have left between us is the bad.

It's complex and I'm struggling to find the energy to save us. The fact that I'm so tired and so overwhelmed with the conflict and the differences and the issues we are dealing with - it's making it very hard to see the good and see what is worth fighting for.

This is going to be a very hard break. I was very depressed over Thanksgiving and Christmas is proving to be the same. My mother and I have not talked since Thanksgiving. I'm too tired at night and I don't want to deal with DP and her hating my mom. And by not calling her I'm avoiding having to deal with the inevitable questions of when she'll see us for the holiday. I don't want to see her because if you take my mother and my family out of the picture, things are better with DP and I. I don't have the energy for my mom and all that goes with it. I want her to go away so I can forget about the abuse. Seeing my mom just serves as a constant reminder of how much I hate her and wish I didn't have to see her, but then leaves me with guilt for not being able to forgive her.

I'm hoping that over this break we can get a lot done - cleaning out and organizing at the house - getting ready for the baby. Maybe spending some quality time together with me not so pressured with work issues and tired all the time. I feel like I live in a fog right now of fatigue, hormones, frustration. Let's see, it's my hope anyway that I can find the energy to tackle a few things. I definitely do feel better when there is not a mess around me - whether it be a physical mess of clutter or an emotional mess of clutter.

And I guess I'm going to need to call my mom tonight. DP will surely give she shit about that, telling me I don't need to do anything. I know she thinks she's supporting me by trying to protect me from my mom. But she can't protect me from my guilt and I think that is what is killing me now. If I didn't have the guilt I could just walk away and say goodbye to the negative energy my family brings. Hell, without the guilt, I'd probably be able to walk away from DP a hell of a lot easier too.

Sorry for the long ramble. It is evident that my thoughts and feelings are jumbled and I still have no clear idea of the direction I should take. But I'm sure I'll get there one of these days.

Glimmers of hope - dashed away

Just when I think there is hope, something happens. Am I too sensitive these days due to hormones? How many times do I have to tell her to stop calling me at work to yell at me about whatever it is I've done wrong now. How many times do I have to say I have no privacy at work and I can not be on the phone listening to another tirade and fighting back the tears. Why is it okay for her to be tired and depressed and accomplish nothing, but not okay for me. When will she stop exaggerating? No she did not spend all day yesterday working on the floor in the bedroom. I was home. I saw her. She spent a total of an hour laying 3 strips of trim and about 3 floor boards. And it's still not done. I on the other hand got up at 6 am. Took out the dogs, took one to the vet, went to my appointment and got my shot, picked up the family, went to Walmart, came home and worked for 5:45 hours on work for my telecommuting requirement, picked up the dog, warmed up dinner, played with the baby, cleaned the kitchen, and wrote out 18 x-mas cards and talked to her niece on the phone for an hour because she was too tired to talk. She pissed and moaned about being sick.

And before the phone call just now I was going to write about some nice things.

But I know this already: this is my life if I stay. This is who she is. I'll never please her. I will always have some transgression, big or small. This is bipolar disorder. Highs and lows, rapid cycling at times. Here are my choices. Accept and Deal. Move on. Neither is appealing.

Baby girl is crazy active today. Sweet little thing.

Thank you

I just wanted to thank everyone for the comments, the encouragement and support. It really means a lot to me and I'm trying to keep up with each one of you and comment when I can. I feel like I should at least keep in touch with those that are supporting me. I'm taking time away from the Northwest board and random blog reading because all the happy people just depress me more.

Things are about the same at home. Have you ever been so afraid that you just can't do anything? That's exactly where I am right now. I'm afraid to stay and afraid to go - so I do nothing. We really are just existing.

I've been thinking of all the things DP and I have been through together and trying to decide if this relationship is worth fighting for. It seems that I have been fighting for it since day one.

I'm so very busy at work, I still have someone out on medical leave and due to budget cuts have not been able to hire a temp. I will try to write more when I can.

Thanks for thinking of me!

Taking a break

I'm going to take a break from blogging. My depressing life is bothering me. The fact that I'm having a baby and DP and I are having problems is bothering me. The fact that so many couples in stronger relationships are struggling is bothering me. I feel guilty. Of course I'd want my children even if I were single. But I'm still feeling terrible.

And last night DP told me to my face that she hated me. There's no taking back that kind of venom.

It's a....

GIRL! We found out yesterday that she is definitely a girl! And most importantly, she is perfectly healthy!

I had a pretty nice week away from work and the computer. It wasn't easy being at home with DP 24/7 for 6 days. There are lots of things going on and her highs and lows are becoming more frequent which of course affect my moods greatly. One minute I think we've turned the corner and the next minute I feel like I need to take DS and finally move on - alone. I'm not sure what's worse right now. Crying every day with her or crying every day alone for the rest of my life.

It saddens me that such a happy time is dampened by these other issues in my life. I'm much too tired for the stress.

I have alot to catch up on at work so I'll try to write more later.

Happy Thanksgiving

I haven't had much time for writing. I haven't been feeling well and it has been very busy at work. I'm going to be out of the office until next Tuesday and I doubt I'll have much time for writing from home. So,

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I'm so Thankful for DP, DS and the new baby and a good job with a kind and supportive boss. It's especially good to have a nice job in this economy! I'm thankful for a warm and safe home and my little family.

Wish this was a better post but it's time to go home to that wonderful little family!

More thoughts

I forgot a few things. The baby won't cooperate at the ultrasounds. So we still don't know what it is. The doctor thinks that due to a lack of obvious boy anatomy that we have a better than 50% chance of it being a girl. But really the baby's legs were tight together so what looked like a vagina could just be a smooshed scrotum - lol. Maybe we'll get another peek in December!

I also started my progesterone therapy and my once a week appointments. I put in a formal request to work from home on all appointment days. I've been requesting it as they come up but now that I'm at once a week I figured it was silly to ask they same question every week. I'm am so grateful that both my bosses thought it was a fine idea. I had to sign a standard telecommuting agreement, but it's no big deal. My boss also, unbeknown to me, approached our department head about me having a working at home maternity leave since I'm only going to have a few weeks of earned time. He said yes! My boss is a working mom and she used to work for a great company where you got paid maternity leave and did not have to use vacation or sick time. I can not believe how much she is supporting me and I am so grateful! Because we work with money we have security cameras and those of us in offices don't have walls that go all the way up. Well my boss checked and with my door closed you can't see in my office so now I'm all set for pumping at work. I had been really worried about it. But she said not to, if she had to, she would adjust the angle of the camera. She pumped at work for a year - can you believe that? But I'm so excited to have the support for whatever I need. I've been having some more personnel issues that have been getting me down and it is a great feeling to get this support from my bosses!!

I've got so much to get organized. I didn't feel well yesterday and I just got this ominous feeling that I need to get ready. I need to be ready to work from bed rest at any minute. We have to get the house in order. I have a plan to be ready January 1 and hopefully the baby will cooperate and if I have to go on bed rest, it won't be before then. That will put me at 23 weeks which is two weeks shy of when I started having problems the last time. My hope is that over my Thanksgiving break we can FINALLY finish the floor in the bedroom and get it all back in order and get the garage done. Then over the Christmas break we can get the baby's room done and the playroom and new office space done. Then once we get our tax refund, we'll be able to put the cabinets in the laundry room and reorganize the kitchen. Let's see, I don't know why I'm so anxious about needing to be ready. I guess because it came out of nowhere the last time. I'm trying to have some control this time around.

Many Thoughts

I've been feeling kind of sad lately and haven't had much time for posting. I'm sure it is just pregnancy hormones and my natural depression. But lately I've been crying at everything. A tornado touched down near my home very early Saturday morning. Luckily it was not close enough to cause any damage in my area, but 2 people did die. One was a little boy. DP brought DS in bed with us, just in case we had to head to a closet and then God Bless her, she stayed awake until the danger passed while DS and I tried to rest. Then I watched the news of all the people in California who have suffered through fires and great losses. It has all made me cry. But of course with the state of affairs in the world, no wonder God is angry. Why can't we see the warnings? We have to take better care of the planet.

And then it seems a lot of people in the blogging and NWA world are suffering as well. It breaks my heart. There have been a few comments lately about people having a hard time sharing in the joys some of us are experiencing. I totally understand that. I'm feeling guilty about sharing my joy. But then I realize that is just silly. I don't want those people to hide their hurt and I know I shouldn't hide my joy.

I've been trying to keep up with blogs and comments, but I'm very busy at work and so I don't have much time. For that reason, I am praying here specifically for the following people:

Tammy - as she struggles with new and sad news
Mandy - as she struggles with grief and loss and hope for the future
Shari - as she goes through some life changing events
Cindy - as she struggles with depression

I pray that they will find the peace and happiness they deserve.

There are a lot of other random things I want to talk about. One is the Barbara Walter's special on Thomas Beatty. I hate the way Barbara acted. I hate all the people who can't understand that some people are just different. I hate the DJ's on our local radio station who just this morning, without really coming out and saying it, implied that Thomas was just plain weird. Hate is a strong word, I know. I shouldn't hate. But I do. Granted, I'm a lesbian, part of the "family" and even I don't "get" the who transgendered thing. But the only reason I don't get it is because I've not felt it, not walked a mile in their shoes. I no more "get" why I'm a lesbian except to say that it is who I am and how I feel. And that's how transgendered people feel. They probably don't get it either. They just know what feels right to them. And why does that have to be bad? I will say I am thankful for Stephanie Brill from Maia Midwives in California for being so nonchalant when Barbara interviewed her. She really gave Barbara a calm and cool so who the fuck cares attitude. I'm grateful to Stephanie for her book which was instrumental in helping DP and I conceive our children. I even wrote to her and thanked her - lol - just a side note there. Got a reply back too!

I missed Tammy Etheridge on Oprah, but according to her blog she dissed her gay people. I guess I'm going to have to google it or something.

And here's a totally random thought. I've finally figured out why so many non-handicapped people use the handicapped stall at work. It's been bugging me for a while. Let me give a little background first though - I can't tell a short story. So there is only one bathroom in our building and it is downstairs. It's cold, but not bad. The stalls are roomy. In the building next door there is another bathroom on the second floor. We can get to it by a little crosswalk that connects the buildings on the second floor. One is covered, one is not. It's actually closer for us to go next door. But it's a smaller, cramped bathroom. Ever been in one of those stall where your knees can touch the door? It's almost like that. So I've gotten a bit bigger and now it's hard for me to get in the stall and close the door without having my legs brush up against the toilet. Of course I have pants on, but it still grosses me out. So the other day, I went in the handicapped stall because it is bigger. Oh and I should mention, I never do that anywhere because I'm always so sure that a handicapped person will be waiting when I get out. And I would feel terrible. But as best I know, there is no one handicapped in either building. So okay, I go in, and what do you know? It's the toilet paper. It's different. It's individual rolls and not one of those super sized things in the locked dispenser. And it's nicer toilet paper too. So I check out the bathroom downstairs where there are 2 handicapped stalls. And guess what, same nicer toilet paper. No wonder everyone likes those stalls! Well now I do too. I figure my poor pregnant, hemorrhoid ass deserves it!

And on that note I will go back to work!

My soap box

It is a shame that in a country where:

We passed the 13th amendment abolishing slavery,
We passed the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote,
We passed the Title IX Act giving women equality in education and collegiate sports,
We passed the Civil Rights Act and ended segregation,
We had a woman and a bi-racial man battle it out for the Democratic nomination for President,
We had a SECOND woman on the ticket for Vice-President,

It is a shame that ON THE VERY DAY we elect our first non-white President, ON THAT VERY DAY, we vote to take away the civil rights of another group.

Shame on California and every other state that has voted to deny me and my "family" across the country the rights to share in the very basic freedoms this country is supposed to offer. My hero Margaret Marshall, Chief Justice of the Massachusetts State Supreme Court, wrote the assenting opinion when Massachusetts legalized gay marriage in 2004. She basically said that the constitution provides that "all men are created equal" and that by man our forefathers meant "mankind" not just white men. The constitution also provided for a separation of church and state. If you want to make this about God and the Bible, fine. But keep it out of my right as a US citizen to be treated like everyone else

Whoopie Goldberg said yesterday that her faith in America has been restored and maybe she could unpack her bag now. Hold on Whoopie. If the rumors about you are true, I'd keep that bag packed baby! Our country has basically a-okayed the persecution of gays and lesbians everywhere.

And the saddest past of all...I could give a damn about me. I'm a big girl and I can take anything a M-F'ing bigot has to throw at me. It's the children I weep for. Mine and my "family's" and all the children in foster care who will be denied a good home with a loving family.

So don't unpack your bags yet my friends. And watch out for burning crosses in your yard. This is a sad, sad state of affairs.

It's Monday

And a rainy one at that! We had a beautiful weekend though - it was sunny and in the 70's both days! It was a nice treat after the very cold week and frost we had! I lost most of my basil in the frost. The garden is too big - I have nothing to cover it with and I just didn't get out there soon enough to pick it all - honestly there was just too much anyway - I have a field of basil!! Someday I'll be able to afford a little greenhouse window. I've seen them, but I think they are about a thousand dollars or so. Yikes.

We didn't do much. Got our shopping done on Saturday and finally a big boy haircut for DS. I cried and scooped up every curl and ringlet into a baggie as the lady cut them. DS was so good though so he got to get a couple of videos afterwards at Walmart. He chose himself - it was so cute, he walked around and around the sale display. He chose the election edition of School House Rock - I was so thrilled. I love School House Rock! I'm totally from that generation of kids!! And then he chose a 2 pack of All Dogs Go To Heaven and Fletch somebody or other. He loves dogs! Well we watched the first one yesterday and I think it was too old for him and way too sad. I cried at the end!

Around this time of year this really neat thing happens at our house. It happens every year without fail. Birds, tons and tons of birds, fly over our house in the evenings around 5 pm or so. I am assuming they are heading further south, for although it's not bad here, we certainly are not Florida! It's amazing. We have about 2 acres of land so I would say the flocks are about an acre wide. And the always fly over our house - same direction, same formation. Year after year. We've been here 6 falls now. We live in a fairly big subdivision so they could fly a little to the left or right and fly over someone else's house. But they don't. It's amazing. And it really is a pretty sight. I wish I knew where they were going and why they fly that same exact path.

We didn't get much housework done this weekend and didn't work on the floor. DP is not feeling well - bad headaches. And I'm just too damn tired. I've got to pick it up this week. I know I keep saying that. Maybe if I say it enough it will happen? Ha. My mother called and wants to come over next weekend. Ugh. I haven't called her back. I'd better work hard around the house and get DP in a good mood for that one!!

Baby Update

They just called with my first results - chance of Down's Syndrome or Trisomies with this baby are less than 1%. The good Lord is with us! Now all we have to do is wait on AFP which should give us more insight into pre-maturity risk and the level II anatomy scan. But so far this seems to be a healthy baby!

God has blessed us!

Here's DS in his Halloween costume.

Bad moods at night

Night time seems to be the worst. I'm tired from a long day at work and I just don't want to be bothered when I get home. I find myself close to tears and very frustrated and angry with DP. Last night as I was putting the dogs out I was venting and raging against her in my head, working on a whole list of things I hate about her and planning to write them all out in my blog. Some rest and the morning usually leave me calmer and feeling guilty about my feelings from the night before.

But there are still a few things I want to vent about. The first is the dishes. DP insists that I leave a clean sink. So before I go to bed at night or in the morning before work, I need to make sure that not only are there no dishes left undone, but that the sink is clean. Really, this is not too much of her to ask. It's important to have a clean house. I'm not saying it's not. But when I come home at night from work, not only are there the dinner dishes to clean up, but there is a sink full of dirty dishes from breakfast and ,lunch for DP and DS. Now how is that fair? Since she doesn't do anything else but watch the kid, couldn't she at least clean their dishes? But can't mention it. Things are so far gone in that department between us that all conversations dissolve into a battle of who actually does more. Or a back and forth of why should I do that because you don't do this.

Here's another one. Certain areas of the house are quite a mess due to all the remodeling. DP still has not finished the floor in our room so much of our stuff is being stored in our bathroom and the dining room. If she would finish the floor I would put it all away. But she claims she can't finish the floor until I clean everything. She wants me to clean and reorganize the stuff and then she will finish the floor and I can put it away. I say finish the god-damn floor and then I'll just put everything back - right?

But then I realized we have the opposite quirk. I can't clean when I am overwhelmed by clutter. And DP is a pack rat and we have a lot of clutter. But I'm realizing that DP can't work if things are not clean. So if I want the floor done, I'm going to have to do it her way, even though it involves quite a bit of extra time. I have to move everything out of the bathroom (side note - things are haphazardly placed in the bathroom and the dining room because this project was only supposed to take 2 days - I did not neatly organize it since I did not plan to have it this way for 4 months now) clean the areas we haven't been able to get to, put everything back neatly this time, wait for her to finish the floor and THEN I can put it all away where it belongs. Does that make any freaking sense at all? Not to me. And I just don't have the energy to deal with it.

I was looking around the house and seeing how DP is such a pack rat. I'm never going to have the house I want. I see pictures of other people's houses, so perfectly decorated and uncluttered. Gee how many times today can I say I hate clutter? It's much easier to clean without a lot of clutter. DP has too much of everything. We can't even park in the garage because it is full of tools and lawn things and stuff that has not been touched or used since we moved here. I could go on and on about it. Like the two bicycle seats in the upstairs closet. Or the video recorder from 1980 or the maybe 5 or 6 old cameras. Or the sealed soda can she found at work with nothing in it. It might be a collector's item some day she says. It is truly overwhelming the amount of stuff she saves. Little by little when I have the energy, I have been getting rid of so much of my stuff. But I'm not allowed to touch hers. Do you know we have over 20 wooden spoons? The kitchen is the worst. She will not get rid of anything and just keeps wanting more. We have 4 different sizes of rice pans. In the last 6 years we have used only one on a regular basis. We have mugs that she has been collecting since she first went to work in the early 80's. We have never used a single one. I could go on and on and on. I hate stuff, I hate clutter. I am going crazy in that house. It seems like such a small issue, but it's making me go insane.

Not too much to say

I've been very depressed lately. DP went to see her sister last weekend and I had these great plans for what I was going to accomplish and instead I spent the entire weekend in bed either sleeping or watching tv. And to make matters worse, I kept DS with me. I am a terrible mom and he deserves so much better. I did manage to drag my fat lazy ass out on Saturday to take him to his Halloween party and then we went to the store. He was still in his costume and made a lot of people smile. But that was all we did. I got out of the bed to feed him and change him, but otherwise we both just sat in the bed and watched tv all day and napped.

I don't know what to do. My depression is not healthy for any of us. DP has had enough of me. Even though she's a hypocrite and can't understand my depression but we have to suffer through hers. But that's another story. I'm tired of being concerned about her. I have to worry about me and what I'm going to do for the baby and DS and myself.

I just found out that one of the side effects of the progesterone therapy is depression. Use caution in patients with depression it says. Great. I've never told my doctor about my depression. Not the smartest thing, but I did so well with the last pregnancy that I really thought it was in my past and there was no need to bring it up. So now I don't know what to do. Be aware of it myself and take good care or tell the doctor and risk not being able to do the therapy.

It's funny, I really missed DP over the weekend. Well I think I missed her. Maybe I just didn't like the feeling of being alone. All I know is I was very sad. But then when she came home I felt just as sad because of course we were right back to where we always are. me trying and it never being enough. But I have to say that this time, after she yelled at me, she did say she wanted to make a plan for getting us out of this depression and getting things back on track. So I'm going to have to pull myself out of this and do my part. Even if it means housework - lol. At least I can laugh about it I guess.

Last night, all night long, I was dreaming that when I went for my next ultrasound, they discovered I was having twins. I woke up a few times, but kept going right back to the dream. It was long and drawn out and very detailed. What was key about it though was that the babies were a boy and a girl. So I think the dream is less about having twins and more about the fact that in a few weeks I'm going to know what I am having and am torn over my feelings about that. I want to focus on a healthy baby and pregnancy and not get caught up in hoping for a particular sex. It seems to selfish and shallow. Yet I can't help but think a boy would be so practical from a financial standpoint. Yet, even though I think it's hard to raise a girl in today's society, there is a part of me that wants a girl, yet another part of me that doesn't. I have to let it go because I'm feeling guilty about having preferences for anything more than a healthy baby who makes it to term.

The bipolar blog

So like I said, by the time I got home, DP was as sweet as pie and had cooked one of my favorite dinners. I wish conflict didn't upset me so much. DP just needs to blow up and vent and then she is usually fine after.

But truly this has become the bipolar blog - life goes from good to bad in seconds!!

This past weekend was a rough one - full of highs and lows. I'm feeling really depressed these days. We had a pretty good appointment at the doctor and did get to see the baby. I'll post a picture soon. I have my high risk appointments this week so I'll have more pictures then. I've been very busy at work and very stressed at home so there's not much time for anything else.

DP is supposed to go see her sister this weekend and I'm looking forward to being alone with the baby. I have some very specific chores I want to get done so I hope I'm feeling well and energetic.

I wish I had something more to write about - well I do really, but I'm tired and work is waiting!

So-so weekend

Life is so-so at my house. The weekend had some good points and some bad points and DP has already called me at work to yell at me about some transgression or other of mine. And then she gets pissed because I refuse to talk to her about it. I don't know how many times I have told her that she can not call me at work and expect to "discuss" her frustrations with me. Her discussions are just yelling and yelling and yelling at me which eventually reduce me to tears. And I can't cry at work. I have no privacy here.

It's all the usual hypocritical stuff. This weekend she put 2 cases of her soda in the fridge. We don't have a big fridge and it took up a lot of space. I asked her if it was necessary to put both cases in there. She was pissed that I dare question her in her own house. She said how would I feel if she questioned me about things I did. I couldn't say anything because I didn't want to start a war. But just that morning she questioned me repeatedly about giving the baby his vitamin. She questions me constantly. She berates me constantly.

Why am I staying.

Then today she's pissed at me because apparently I'm not handling the calls to Legal Aid correctly. I'm doing all of this for her. I work full time and take private time away from the office (I have to go outside to make a private call) to get all of this stuff organized for her. She's at home all day. And she doesn't do anything. I have to make all the doctor appointments. I've had to take time off from work to attend appointments with both her and the baby. Plus all my own stuff. She does not see any of that. All she sees is that I don't do the housework. Maybe I'm tired of having to manage at work and then manage the household too. Today I'm scheduling flu shots, refilling prescriptions, talking to the attorney, returning a broken baby monitor. Saturday she had a fit because we - or should I say me, because I got all the blame - forgot to buy a lottery ticket. Getting rich quick is her biggest obsession. So what if we don't play the lottery one time. But it was the end of the world and just another example of how I'm not responsible. And today she told me I was no mother to my child. I'm not sure what I did to earn that comment.

I try to forgive her because I realize that she is ill. Mentally and physically. But how much abuse can one person take. I'm so tired of listening to her say that I'm the one abusing her because I expect her to do everything and don't help enough around the house. I think I do more than my fair share at a 40 hour a week job plus 10 hours of commuting. I can tell you right now, all she does is watch the baby, cook every other night and take the dogs out. There is no way she puts in as much work as I do at the office.

But we aren't going to get anywhere with the "I do more" game. We just each dig our heels in deeper. So she hung up on me. She's pissed and I want to cry.

This is no way to live. But watch, it'll be over and she'll be nice again. That's how it is.

Oh TGIF!

I'm so happy it is Friday. I'm really not feeling well at all - the headaches and nausea are back. DP is worried that it is my blood pressure. I will check it at home with her machine and then make sure I mention it to the doctor next week. With DS I was over those symptoms by now.

Work is very busy and my staff is bugging me. It's petty stuff. I came out of my office today and everyone was gone. Apparently one of them took a different lunch and didn't check with me. There is supposed to be coverage at all times. They do little things like this all the time - call in sick when they know I am out of the office, change their lunches without telling anyone, etc. It is so annoying. I don't want to be a micro-manager, but we need to have coverage for the phones and answering the phone is not one of my responsibilities, but if I know no one is out there to answer it, I will of course do so. But sometimes they'll all be away from their desks. When I worked a front office, I didn't leave my area until the others were back. But I don't feel well so I guess I'm just being petty. I have another staff member who likes to go to lunch at 2 pm which I think is crazy that they are gone in the middle of the day. I'm thinking of asking the big boss if I can assign lunch hours - both of the other sections in our office do that. I don't see any reason why we shouldn't either.

I hope we have a good weekend. I really hope we can get out of our slump and get some things finished around the house. We have to finish putting the flooring in the master bedroom and trim out the closets. We say we are going to do it every weekend and then we don't. Part of the problem is that the air gun freaks Max (the very nervous dog) out and the last time we used it he was practically climbing the walls. And this flooring is really a two woman job but now one of us has to take care of Max. But we have to get it done. I really want to organize our closets and put everything back in our room and closets. It's still piled in the dining room and part of our bathroom and it is making me crazy. We've got to get it done so we can move on to converting the office for the new baby. There is so much to do. I get overwhelmed and then I don't want to do anything.

DP said definitely I need to rest this weekend. I'm looking forward to that. Wednesday I worked from home and it was so nice to sit in my pj's with my feet up and work from my comfy chair.

There's not much else to report. DP has not heard from legal aid or disability services. I hate being the one who has to call for her. I wish she would take some of this on herself. I did spend an hour on the phone at lunch today with Sprint. They over charged me for our new phones. My bill did not match the shipping receipt. It took talking to 4 people, but I finally did get over $75 in credits so I was happy.

Now I'd better get back to work. There's much to be done!!

It's hard to bare your soul

So it was really hard to post the other day. Made harder by the fact that I knew some people would read it. Why do I care so much about what people think? Is it because I was raised by a mother who only cares about appearances? No offense to the lovely people who are reading my blog and who have been there for me during all my BFN's on the NWA board - but you are strangers - what is the chance that I ever have or will ever cross paths with you in real life? Why then, does it matter so much to me what you think? And why do only some things matter to me? I don't care if people know that I am gay. I don't care if people know how my children were conceived and who the donors are. But I do care if you know that my father was a pedophile and no one did anything about it. I do care if people know that I had a miscarriage and suffered through a years worth of failed IUI's and blew every penny I had ever saved. Is is the severity of the "secret". I mean really, my father should be a convicted felon. Why do the sins of my family weigh so heavily on me?

What did my mother do to me to make me so insecure? I really, really should go back to therapy because I still have so many questions. But I also feel like it's time to move past the why's and the poor me's and just start living once and for all. My priest would tell me I have to forgive them? Do I? I'm still so angry. But can I truly put the past to rest and have peace if I don't forgive them?

I honestly don't know what to do. I do not know how to resolve and reconcile this part of my life.

On to a happier note - I fear DS will not survive the terrible two's without a broken bone or some stitches. He has taken to sitting on his art table and using the curtains to make a tent. The curtains have already come down once - rods and all. And stairs are a nightmare. We have them blocked but now he wants to walk up and down them like a big boy and not hold our hand. And the running - he can not walk - he must run. Everywhere. And jump. And he finally got the hang of his inchworm and fire engine that you propel with your feet. He can maneuver that inchworm at break neck speed now throughout the house. And it's fun to flip ourselves off the back of the one chair in the living room that is not up against the wall. Of and let's not forget anything that is plugged in. We have covered and or blocked with large furniture every outlet possible, but as we all know, some outlets remain available. I mean, as much as I prefer not to use it, I do have to plug in the vacuum every now and again and we have to unplug the fish tank when we clean it. I'm not sure if I shared here that not too long ago I went in his room one morning and was surprised to notice it was darker than usual. I thought the night light had blown out. So I walked with just the aid of the hall light into his room to check it. It was gone. Gone I say - removed from the wall - G-O-N-E. I found it on the floor in two pieces. He had taken the cover off. So I found and picked up the pieces. Much to my horror I discovered that the light bulb itself was gone. DS was awake and watching me closely and laughing. I asked him where the bulb was and he found it on the floor for me. Unbelievable. He now has a blue light in a small lamp and on his highest dresser (which of course has been moved to block the outlets) for a night light. My 2 year old dissected his night light. Now before anyone calls DSS, we do still have the baby monitor in the room, but he is so quiet when he's doing these things. He sometimes gets up in the middle of the night to play and then just puts himself back to bed. Now when we hear noises, we go check on him. But when he's "investigating" things, he does it very quietly.

DP and I have not had any fights all week. I think she's too depressed to fight. She's decided not to go to Puerto Rico for the funeral. As it is, I had to pay for her sister and nephew's tickets on my credit card. We can't afford for DP and the baby to go now too. Plus it will be depressing and stressful and DP already feels bad enough these days. I am going to get paid back from the insurance money. Apparently the funeral home covered all the arrangements for sending the body, but would not cover the family transportation. So let's see. It was risky on my part because I can not afford to pay it off. But what was I going to say? He's my baby's grandfather for God's sake. I want him to be buried where he wanted to be at rest.

Not much else is going on. I have a headache and feel sick today. I can't wait for next week. I had some crampy feelings last night and I'll just be happy when I have that next ultrasound. We should know later today if legal aid will take DP's case. I hope so because until SIL pays me back I have no room on the credit card for an attorney. I really need to win the lottery or go on a game show. I feel like we are never going to get ahead.

But like everything else, this too shall pass....

4 posts today

So I said I had a lot to say today. There are 4 posts in all - well 5 but this is just the "intro" since they posted in the reverse order that I wrote them in. So if anyone is truly interested in reading them, you might want to start with the one at the bottom first.

And if you do read them all and won't try to take my children away from me and have me declared insane then you are a friend indeed!!

Random thoughts on things

Note: I started this post back in June!!

I have to say I was surprised this morning to see a comment from anyone other than Shari and Tammy! I do completely appreciate the feedback and it was funny, last night I was thinking about how I really needed to clarify some things because I do make DP out to be the most horrible person. And I do have some responsibility and fault for how bad things have gotten. This is my private blog so of course all my venting is going to be slanted in my favor and of course my side only!

Let me first say that I grew up in a very dysfunctional environment. On the outside we looked like your typical middle class, two parents working, go to church on Sunday family. Behind those walls was something totally different. And as I've gotten older and more family secrets have come out, we were even more dysfunctional than I realized as a child.

Here's what I knew as a kid:

My dad was an only child and quite spoiled, although middle class. His mother had 7 miscarriages before he was born. My grandparents were born in the USA right after their parents came over from Quebec and the Azore Islands. They were poor and my grandfather had to go to work after 8th grade. My grandmother did complete high school. They worked in the textile mills. My grandmother died of cancer when I was 5. I remember her like it was yesterday. She will remain the only person in my life who has ever loved me unconditionally. My grandfather died when I was 15. I was told that my dad was often unkind and disrespectful to his parents. He was ashamed of them. Other relatives have always told me what good people they were and I remember that about them. My dad goofed off in high school, had to go to prep school to get into college and then did not do that well and never got a degree. He did go on to have a successful career with the same company for over 25 years.

My mom came from a pretty broken up family. My grandmother's parents divorced and the girls stayed with the mom and the boys went with the dad who remarried. He did quite well for himself but the mom remained poor and bitter. My grandmother did not grow up seeing her brothers or her dad even though they lived in the next town. My great grandmother was drunk and crazy and when my grandmother was 10 great grandmother tried to kill her with the butcher knife. My grandmother grew up and married an alcoholic and had a lot of kids and turned into an alcoholic herself. My mom grew up very poor. She met my dad when she was very young and they got married and had 2 kids - me and my brother. My mom did go to college and she was a teacher. She stayed home when we were born and eventually went back to work when my brother went to school.

My parents were never happy together and I always knew that. I remember the fighting and the tension. My mom was a perfectionist and very regimented. Nothing was ever good enough for her. She was very strict. We were middle class, nothing fancy, but the bills were paid, we had food and clothing. But on the inside we were living with someone scarred by her own childhood - she was the classic "adult child of an alcoholic" syndrome - if you know anything about that. She was the caretaker in her family. I never had a good relationship with my parents. I never understood my mom and why she was so strict with me. I was a good kid. But my mom controlled everything about my life from my clothes to my hairstyle to what I could and could not do. I did not date or go to parties or participate in any school activities because I had to take care of my little brother after school when she went back to work. If I got a B it was why didn't I get an A. I could go on and on but it is enough to say that it was an extremely emotionally abusive environment.

As an adult I learned:

When I was very small my dad did some bad things and my mom, grandmother and 2 aunts knew about it. Nothing was really ever done about it. My dad blamed my mom and on the advice of a priest my father was "forgiven" and life went on. Many, many years later my dad left my mom for a while and one aunt decided to tell the whole family about the bad things my dad did. This is when I found out that my dad was a pedophile and some memories of what he may have tried to do to me came back. There was a lot of ugliness at that time. I also found out that my mom's dad had done some bad things too. I found out during a heart to heart with my mom and Verna (we met with my mom to try to resolve some of the issues). I found out that my grandfather forced himself on my mom when she was younger because my grandmother had kicked him out of the bedroom after the 6th baby and refused to ever have sex with him again. I learned more too about the effects abuse as a child can have on people and although it doesn't make the bad stuff go away, it helps me to understand everyone in my family. I learned that I should have been protected as a child and that some bad stuff may have happened to me as well. I've been though years of therapy and have a lot of anger and distrust for the family that did not protect me. I am very much like my mother. In fact years ago I became friends with someone who is a therapist and when I told her my life story about 2 years after we met - she said to me "I always wondered who the alcoholic was in your family". She was very surprised it was my grandparents and not my parents for I too have the classic symptoms like my mom. It just goes to show the very profound effect my mom had on me.

As an adult: I've never had a lot of friends, never been good at relationships with people. Just like my mom. Growing up I never had to share a room, clothes, anything at all. I spent a lot of time in my room with the door closed. I always liked girls but was embarrassed by it. I did not have any good gay role models and I tried very hard to fit in and be normal. I went to an all girls high school and college where people were very into boys. In college I dated a bit when friends set me up and at 19 was the victim of date rape. Every guy I ever dated only wanted sex. I never dated anyone who was interested in me so that just added to my insecurities and feelings of worthlessness from childhood. I still had no good gay role models and refused to personally acknowledge my attraction to women. When I was 23 I met a guy who actually liked me enough to not try and have sex with me right away. He seemed safe and I thought he would protect me so I married him. It was what was expected of me and I just wanted to be like everyone else in the world and I wanted to have kids. Well he was not a bad person but he was lazy and immature and eventually, although we lived together and were married, we lived separate lives, had separate bedrooms, etc. We each did what we wanted to do and sometimes did things together. It was like being married to your best friend. It wasn't awful, but I wanted more. Through therapy for other issues I began to open up about my other feelings and was eventually able to accept and embrace the fact that I was gay. I have only been in 2 long term relationships with a woman, DP being the second one.

Written today: So fast forward to the present and I'm left with a mom I do feel sorry for yet am filled with so much anger that she left me at the risk of suffering the same horrible abuse she suffered. I'm left with a father I hate, who has Alzheimer's now and who I never had the strength to confront and now it's too late. The same will be true of my mom because all she wants now is to say poor me. She'll never own the fact that she subjected her children to extreme danger never mind all the other kids my father ever got near. I hate my whole family, yet feel some pity for them because they are sick. It's so funny, from the outside we are normal. But when you look deep, we are the stuff of Jerry Springer shows. I'm so embarrassed by it. I'm not my parents, yet I feel I wear the scarlet letter of my family. I feel used and damaged and broken. And so long as my family stays in my life, I will be held captive by the sins of the past. I really feel that the only way to truly live and heal and be happy is to break free. And guilt, some sick, twisted, Catholic school girl, honor thy father and thy mother, crap that was force fed into my head for a lifetime (3rd grade through college and Sunday school during the 3 years I was not in Catholic school) keeps me from truly being free.

And the sad thing is that it is also going to kill my relationship with DP because if I could just let go and live some of our problems would become non-issues. Of course other problems would still be there. I'm not so stupid as to think that life would be perfect "if I could only change this one thing". But it would allow me to finally live and breath free and unchained and that would help me to be a better partner. Because believe me when I say that so much of my life force is sucked up by this past that haunts me.

So wow, there, I did it. I've been saying for a long time that I want my blog to be an honest place. That I don't want to care if people read it and know my horror. I learned in therapy that I will never get better if I am not honest with myself. And this is what this blog is. If it shocks you or makes you think I am a bad person, I can't worry about that. I'm not writing to an audience. I'm writing to myself. In my dreams this would be a happy blog, one that anyone could read. But maybe that blog will come later. The one where I post the happy family pictures and updates with funny little stories. But this blog, this is my heart and soul. This is where I hurt and heal.

Evil Thoughts

I have been having a lot of evil thoughts lately and I'm feeling really guilty about it. I know God is going to punish me for it. The situation with my family is never going to improve. DP asked me the other day if I was feeling some relief from not having talked to or seen my mom in a while. My aunt was here again and we could not see her due to us all being sick and me leaving for the conference. Well, I told DP, no I don't feel better because it's always mixed emotions. I do feel better in one sense about not having to deal with my mom. But then I feel guilty for being a bad daughter, or I feel sad and depressed that I can't have a normal family, or I feel angry that DP can't just "put up and shut up" when it comes to my family. And then of course I live on pins and needles, dreading the moment she is going to call and want to see us, and dreading having to deal with it and DP's attitude about it.

So lately I've been thinking a lot how in some ways I just wish my parents were dead. Then I'd only have to deal with the guilt of being happy they are gone.

God is going to punish me, He really is. Why of why did I have to suffer the Catholic indoctrination of guilt?

And then there are the dogs. I've written about this before. When the big boys started fighting we had to separate them. I realized yesterday that it's been over 3 years of this routine. I conceived DS in October 2005 and we were already on the separation routine. Three years. I don't know how much longer I can take it. Six dogs, each one living separate, each one being walked to and from the kennels each day, each one let out on a lead into the back yard, alone and one at a time. Poop every day times 6 and usually twice a day per dog. It's become no life for any of us. Living in a 10 x 10 kennel by day and (albeit the largest on the market and bigger than they each need and bigger than the recommended guidelines) sleeping at night in a crate. And if it's bad weather being in that crate 24/7 except for when I let each into the back yard to go potty and stretch. Getting up earlier in the morning because the dog routine takes at least 30 minutes. Having no time to play with them because I can't possibly have the time to play individually with each of the 6 dogs every day. But none are adoptable. Gigi hates cats, men, other small animals, kids, and any dog she has ever met except for Sydney. Sydney hates random people and will bite if he decides he doesn't like you. He must be the alpha male but will submit to an alpha female. He also hates black people which makes me sad that I have a racist dog. He's also suffered his whole life from chronic ear problems and skin problems. Dakota must also be the alpha male and he's destructive if he gets bored. He and Sydney will both pee in the house if they get mad. He also has a nervous problem and licks his paws and barks at his dishes. Max has major anxiety issues and becomes very destructive. He's eaten a window sill, jumped through screens, ate through the laundry room door because he somehow got himself closed up in there, tore up the vinyl on the laundry room floor and attempted to chew through 2 door frames. Molly digs at everything, the yard, the floor, the carpet. She has also torn up some flooring. Sasha, the little one, has nervous habits too and she barks and barks and barks until you are ready to go insane. They would all need super special homes and would probably need to be the only animal there. And only Molly and Max can be trusted with kids.

So lately I've been wishing that they would just quietly pass away too. Gigi and Sydney are 8-9 now and I'm not going to be able to afford major vet care as they age and fall ill. Already, without the rescue's help any more I can't afford heart worm and soon the basic vet care will be too much. I'm on an monthly plan and it's just over $100 a month for all of them. While still a good deal, it is getting harder and harder to care for them.

But here's where my guilt comes in again. I thought this is what I wanted to do so I committed to caring for them. Since it will be almost impossible to find homes for them the only other option is to take them to the county pound where they will be put to sleep. How can I do that? I have to see them to their natural end as best I can. And then I am done. I know now, a little too late, that animal rescue of more than one at a time, is not for me.

And to make matters worse DP would go to the poor house for them. Is it too cruel to say we should have a DNR or Living Will for the dogs? No heroic efforts? If they get sick then let them go? DP thinks I'm cruel and barbaric. I say I'm just being realistic.

I've been working on a post about my family issues. I may post it today just so everyone can realize just how much is on my shoulders. I learned to say no and stand up for some things a little too late and now I carry a great deal of baggage around with me.

But time will evolve these things away and one day I will be free.

Depression

I'm really worried about what effect this is going to have on the baby inside me. I felt great with DS. But with this baby I'm feeling pretty awful emotionally. There is a lot of stress and I am truly questioning my sanity of wanting to bring another child into this world.

It's funny though, this time around, I do have a hope for the future. I think it is because I'm finally learning to live with my depression. I was diagnosed with dysthymia with periods of double depression. I've tried years of therapy - very helpful and medication - not so helpful. Oh and PMDD - I have that too. So for the most part I'm blue all the time - I don't respond well to medication. Then I have these periods of major depression. But you know what, I always come out of them. And I think that's what's different this time. In the beginning I didn't know what it was like to come out of it. This time I know it can be better again. I just have to ride it out. And I am stronger this time. I still think about taking my son and running away. But I don't think about killing myself like I did in my teens and 20's.

So that's progress right? It means that I'm finally learning to manage my illness. Well that's what I'm telling myself. It works for me!

My life is the lesser of 2 evils

I have a lot to say today so be prepared for multiple posts. First of all, I have to get back on the ball at work so I am going to limit my blog reading time to the first 1/2 hour of the day and my posting time to a 1/2 hour at lunch. After today of course since I have so much to say - lol.

So I was reading my new reader's - hi Cindy! - blog and she was having a debate with someone about our current presidential candidates. I didn't read all the comments but basically she was talking about the lesser of two evils and DP and I discuss the same thing almost every day. DP thinks Obama is the Antichrist as well and she's one of those rare gay Republicans - gasp! I still don't know what I, a Massachusetts born, Kennedy-loving, liberal Democratic, am doing with her. There's a group of gay Republicans. I usually forget the real name and call them the Argyle Sweater Republicans but I think it's really Log Cabin or something like that. As usual, I digress. So Hillary was my girl. She wasn't perfect, but there was something about her that I really liked. There is no way I am going to vote for Obama. I don't trust him. He sneers when he smiles. So that leaves me with McCain? I've been through the whole lesser of two evils argument. I thought, why vote? They both suck. But then I realized that if I truly don't want Obama, I have to give my vote to McCain. Because the truth of the matter is, we are going to get one of them, like it or not. It's a sad, sad state of affairs our country. Europe looks better and better all the time. I've always wanted to live in France or Italy...

So that all got me thinking about my relationship with DP and everything that is wrong and my fear of being alone. BIL's death made me think about it even more. And I realized how sad that I am choosing the lesser of two evils for my life. Life with DP is hard and I'm most likely suffering verbal and emotional abuse that I don't always deserve. But somehow, to me, being alone would be far worse. And I'm not kidding when I say this is the end of the relationship road for me. What's worse about being alone? The feeling of loneliness is overwhelming to me. I don't have the love of my family - don't really want it anymore either. I guess I need what little bit I can get from DP. And it's sad, really. I wish I were stronger.

I did nothing last night beyond cleaning up after dinner. I'm so damn tired and the baby was up twice last night. Cindy, thanks for the suggestions. They would be great except for the fact that DP doesn't see her "job" as being the one to do everything at home. She resents having to be the cook, the gardener, the maid and the nanny - as she puts it. She just doesn't see it. And she complains how she can't get anything done unless DS naps because he has to be watched constantly since he is in to everything. She's a hypocrite, simple and true. She gets on me for being fat and lazy and depressed, but she's the same. And yes, she's the same with the money as your beloved. But I'm going to force her to take over the finances because I want her to see how little we have. I'm tired of saying no and dealing with the attitude and pouting and being the bad guy. But most of all I'm tired of the stress. So this way she can see how it is. She won't save - doesn't believe in that - can't take it with us when we die she says. But that's fine. She's overweight, has HBP, a heart condition and smokes 2 packs a day. I don't think she'll be around when I'm worrying about retirement. Yikes, I didn't just say that - I'm in a bad mood today. I have a small retirement investment from my first job and I pay into the state system here so I think I'll be okay. Heck I'm the one who can live on nothing so if I do end up alone one day, I'll be okay.

So my world is now reduced to deciding between the lesser of two evils. Depression is an ugly thing. It forces me to have such a negative outlook, to lose all hope of anything good. I'll choose McCain and I'll choose DP because with them I'll suffer a little less than I would with Obama and loneliness.

Sad news

DP's brother-in-law died yesterday from liver cancer. He suffered greatly at the end and now he is at peace. It has been very hard and we spent most of the day moping around the house, very depressed, doing only what we had to do to care for DS and the animals. I don't think I even brushed my teeth and I cried all day. The couple of days before had been pretty good. No fighting and some nice little family outings with DS. But then yesterday I felt more depressed than I have in ages. And not long ago, I wrote the same thing. But yesterday was worse. I think it has hit me hard because biologically I am carrying BIL's grandchild. A child he will never know. And then I cried because DP and her family are so close and my family, well I hate them and this evil part of me wishes my parents were already gone so I didn't have to deal with them. And DP is depressed, worse than she's been in years. She actually said we were crazy to bring another child into the world with the financial stress we are under. She wants to give our children better than we had. Well of course you can't live on just love, but if we make some adjustments we could live on store brand and clothes from Walmart! Hell I'm going to head over to Goodwill to look for some size 22's to get me through until I'm forced to wear maternity clothes and I'm getting a few borrowed outfits from a plus size friend at work who is about to deliver. I'm not too proud to beg! But DP is I'm afraid. And in a way I understand. I don't want my children to grow up hearing, like I did, sorry there's no money for that. But somehow I think this is a call to teach that there is more to life than things. DP and I both grew up poor, but somehow we did not turn out the same.

I dragged my butt to work today simply because I do not have the time to take. Based on my calculations, if I use no time between now and April, I will have 4 weeks. Reality says I'll go early due to my high risk and that I'll never be able to comp all my appointments, even with working from home. I have no idea how much time to even hope for through the shared leave program. I'm hoping my van pool family will find it in their hearts to give a whole 8 hours each. That would give me 2 more weeks. I'm trying not to worry about it. It's in God's hands. Only He knows if my water will break at 31 weeks again. At least I have some short term disability, it's not great, but if we stock up on diapers and pay what we can over the next few months, 60% salary will at least pay the major bills. And hopefully a good tax refund can be had before the baby is born to pay off any credit card use between now and then.

On a good note, we did qualify for legal aid to help fight for DP's benefits. The next hurdle is getting the local office to take the case and an extension on the hearing. I should know the results in the next day or two. And we are getting hooked up with disability services to hopefully get some mental health services for DP. I'm beginning to be very fearful of her being with DS all day. I know he's not in any danger so to speak, but I fear he's not getting the activity and stimulation he needs because DP is unable to leave the house alone these days. The pressure on me is overwhelming. I have all I can do to get to work, take care of this baby inside me, and get through basic chores at home each night. I need DP to be stronger.

Was I so selfish to want another baby? Am I going to be able to get it together and be a good parent to 2 children? I'm feeling very guilty right now for all the better moms out there who are still waiting. I'm having too many feelings right now to even get it all out.

And I'm not focused on work. I'm getting behind in everything. I've got to pull it together. I can't ruin this life!

Back in town

I've just come back from a lovely conference in Florida! I thought I would have lots of time to blog while I was in my hotel room, but just before I left we got a notice about budget cuts so I decided not to spend money on Internet in my room and just used the free service provided in the main conference room in between sessions.

So just for a quick update:

DP took the no money situation very well and we managed to do the shopping for the week on $54. I was very proud of her! She's also agreed to take over the finances after this month. We do have some other stresses on the horizon. Social security called and wants to meet with her in person. We are battling them on an overpayment claim they have and now we think we are going to have to get a lawyer. They paid her for some months they say she was not entitled to and we disagree on 2 of those months and on the other months they told us they would be monitoring and reducing her payment if necessary (she tried to work for a short time) and when they didn't and sent us a letter saying they were not cutting her benefits we didn't think anything of it. Now THREE years later they say they made a mistake. Anyway, she gets social security for her heart condition. I don't know how I'll pay for an attorney. I have the day off tomorrow and we're going to see if the state legal aid will take her case. Since we are not married, they can't count my income. I don't know what else to do.

The conference was good and I learned a lot and I LOVE Florida. We want to move there. DS is up to lots of 2 year old trouble and poor DP is worn out. I had to travel on Sunday so I'm getting a comp day tomorrow - I have the best boss.

The pregnancy is going along well. The nausea and fatigue are easing up little by little, although heartburn is setting in!

I won't be around again until next week, but once I get caught up at work I'll try to post more!

I'm here

I'm here and totally stressed out. I went to pay for the car repairs the other day and realized my credit card had expired in August and I have not gotten a new one. I had to pay the $500 out of my checking account which now leaves us with $100 until pay day next week and no credit card to fall back on. I tried to get the bank to do a balance transfer but it takes 4-6 days and I can't do it on-line without the new card which will take up to 14 days. I'm in charge of the finances and DP is going to have a fit. We live paycheck to paycheck and all our savings are gone from TTC. I don't know if we can make it until next week on 100 bucks. I think I have enough dog food and gas to just make it. And we should be okay with diapers. She may need cigarettes but instead of buying a carton we could just buy a couple of packs to get her through. I think we could do it, the problem is admitting it to DP because money (or I should say our lack of it) is a huge problem for us. I suck at managing the money so I don't know why I do it. I plan to turn it over to DP, but I had hoped to get us back in a little better standing before I did. I just can't take the stress anymore.

My mom is driving me crazy. My aunt is going to be in town again this weekend and I told my mom we were busy. We have plans Saturday and Sunday I leave for a conference. So that didn't sit well with my mom when I said I wouldn't be able to see my aunt. She called back to say how about dinner Friday night. Like I can squeeze one more thing in. I work all day. I have to pack. I'm tired. The baby has the flu and now DP and I are both feeling sick so I am just going to call my mother and tell her no. I'm so fed up with all the stress of everything.

I don't know what to do. I want to cry. I'm so overwhelmed and depressed. I don't know why we are having another baby - what was I thinking? How on earth are we going to afford all this? Why did I have to spend all our money on fertility treatments? I wrote off over $19,000 of medical bills on my taxes last year. We drained both savings account like total fools spending all our money on sperm and doctors and medications. Before I found NW I was paying $500 a vial for sperm.

I am truly going over the edge from the pressure and the stress and of course the hormones. And I dread having to tell DP we have to spend no money unless necessary until my paycheck hits on Tuesday. But I'm going to be selfish here and blame some of it on her since I try to tell her when we don't have money for things and then she doesn't listen and says I never buy her what she wants. So yes, even though we're in a bad spot, she's going to have to take over. I never spend money, never ask for anything. I need new contacts and new glasses but I make do. My clothes are getting a little tight but I'm making do. I need new underwear but I'm making do. I can live like a pauper but DP can't. But we are paupers. It's so sad that we are barely getting by. But gas has doubled since I went back to work. The weekly food shopping is more.

I just don't know what to do. I don't want another fight. I don't have the energy. Pray she's okay with what I have to tell her.

It's Friday

And I'm going home early!! They called to say the car was ready so I'm leaving early to go take care of that and get an early start to the weekend! It's perfect weather here today. Sunny and no humidity. These are my favorite kinds of days.

It's been a bad day at work with employee issues all around. I have an employee who has called in sick 3 days this week, but managed to get herself to an already paid for training yesterday. This after having been on vacation for 3 days. It has now been over a week. But there is nothing I can do because our crappy new Administrative Assistant still has not completed our office policies that we gave her 5 months ago so I can't even require a doctor's note. This same Admin. didn't place our paper order 2 weeks ago and I found out today that I won't have my brochures for my seminar next week. The same Admin. had the nerve to be ugly to me today because I e-mailed the bosses about it. Well, too bad, my boss isn't happy with the Admin. either and wanted it all in writing.

On the baby front - the nausea is back to almost 24/7. It must be a girl because this baby is causing way more problems than my son did. I'm so hormonal - there has got to be extra estrogen running through my veins - lol!!

On the home front, I knew the good feelings could not last and Wednesday night there was a lot of yelling on DP's part and crying on mine. First of all I was feeling like crap and then she started in about my mother and I just snapped. But again, there goes the hypocrite in her and let me tell you, she can snap whenever she wants, but how dare I speak to her in the same way. But I think we are over it. Things were better yesterday. I've been trying to do more of my share around the house and that has helped. Now if only I could find a way to handle the issue with my family. If I could just find where the happy medium is. But DP is so unpredictable - you never know what about my mom might set her off.

Am I horrible? Will God punish me for wishing I didn't have these parents? How do you choose between the people in your life? I'm just so much happier with DP's family.

Baby you take my breath away

Need I say more? One perfect baby, with one perfectly glorious beating heart. Praise God!

A few pics

Nervous

I'm getting so anxious for tomorrow. I've been busy at work this morning and that has helped to pass the time quickly, but now the afternoon is slowing down. Last night before bed I felt the worst nausea I've experienced so far. I had to go to bed at 9:30 just so I could rest. I took some Tums for heartburn and it all passed within a half an hour. It's 1 pm now and the same feeling is setting in again. It's also a rainy day and that always makes me extra sleepy. Yesterday I was able to get out at lunch for a 20 minute walk and that did boost my energy for the afternoon so I want to try and keep that up. I would have gone today but I don't feel like walking in the rain - I should though because I'm so sleepy and I do have my umbrella. It should only be a few more weeks with the nausea. With DS it passed soon after the second month. The fatigue I'm afraid will be here to stay.

We enrolled DS in a place called The Little Gym. He's been to two classes and has learned to jump which he now does constantly. I will try to upload some photos from my phone. We are also trying some potty training. He will actually pee on the potty if you make him sit there long enough, but he won't tell us when he has to go. I just don't think he's truly ready, but it doesn't seem to hurt to start showing him the routine of it all. He does like to sit on his potty when we are going potty ourselves which I guess means he's kind of getting it. It's funny. Having a two year old is a blast, really!!

Weekend Update

Wow, there's been a lot going on lately and since I hadn't felt like writing much, I feel like I have a lot to say today. First, in last weekend's paper there was a really horrible article about our county's sheriff and the Mexicans that live in our community. He said some really horrible and racist things. There has been a lot of backlash and I heard today that he was fired on Friday. I can't find anything about it and he is an elected official so I'm not sure if he can be fired or not. But he should be. There is no place in society today for the things he said. But it would be nice if he was fired Friday. In class on Friday we watched MLK's "I have a dream" speech. It always moves me to tears. It would be very fitting that a southern bigot be removed from his post on the very day I watched that speech again.

I can't believe that Wednesday is the big day! I can't wait to see the baby and get that reassurance that everything is okay!! I hope I'm really busy the next two days and that the time passes quickly. I'm working from home Wednesday so I probably won't be able to update until Thursday. I'm looking forward to seeing how my weight is. Except for this weekend, I think I've done pretty well watching what I eat. This appointment will tell me if I am on the right track or not. If I've gained then I'll need to make adjustments.

I was going to post today that it had been a whole week without a fight between DP and I and a whole week in which she refrained from using that nasty tone and ugly words. I can post that there hasn't been any fighting, but yesterday she blew it and was ugly. We had gone to run some errands and to fill our gas tanks. We stopped for a bite to eat. She ate as we were driving and I was trying to feed bites to our poor child. When we got to the gas station she needed my help - why I do not know - and I kinda of fussed about having to get out of the car and help her. I mean, geesh, she ate, and the poor kid was hungry and stuck in his car seat. I really didn't want to be handling the gas pump and then be feeding him. She was pissed about struggling with the gas cans so she let me have it. I just told her to stop it. But at least we didn't fight this week. Every night I've tried to make sure the basic chores are done and I think that has helped. I haven't had the energy to do extra, but I think she noticed my efforts. This weekend we did errands and I took a nap both days. We watched a movie Saturday night and got pizza - which I had been dying for. We didn't get any projects done. It was really hot and we had all we could do to keep up with the daily chores. The bedroom floor is almost done and I really need to push us this week. We've got to get the downstairs back in order so we can start on the office. That room either needs to become the new baby's room or a big boy room for DS. The time will be here before we know it. And that office holds all the stuff I never know what to do with! It's beyond time to get organized.

Gas prices here are insane again because of the hurricane. I'm so worried about our budget. It's getting harder and harder and I don't know what else to do. I'm taking the van pool, buying store brand whenever I can, using coupons. We don't go out - if we eat out it's cheap buffets or pizza and we don't do it every week. I take my lunch to work. I'm not sure what else we can cut. I think the cable is going to be next and quite possibly the vet plans for the dogs. I hate to do that - it's not fair to them to not take them to the vet. Also, I'm going to make DP take over the budgeting and bill paying. She never listens to me when I say we don't have the money for something. Maybe this will make her see how bad it can get. I just can't take the stress anymore. Maybe she should help and stop smoking. Cigarettes used to be cheap here in tobacco land, but not anymore!! It's becoming tough for the middle class. I don't really have anything left to give up as far as vices go since I already stopped with the nails and the hair appointments. My last thing I have to give up is my Clinique makeup and perfume. I'm ready to switch to Walmart makeup, but I don't know about the perfume. We'll see.

In Memory

I'll never forget September 11th. I was living in Boston, just a quarter mile from the airport and right in a flight path. I probably heard and saw the fated jets take off that day. But I wouldn't have noticed because by then we had been living there so long that the sound and sights of the jets were interwoven into the fabric of our being. I ventured downtown that morning and found the streets eerily quiet - probably because everyone was glued to television and radio. But I had a therapy appointment and so I drove downtown. But the building was being evacuated. Apparently the Israeli Consulate was located in that building and there was fear that it would be attacked. There was a lot of fear that day. I drove home in shock. I was still married at the time and my husband worked at a major hospital. He called to say they were being held over on emergency status, they were preparing for the casualties that would surely be airlifted shortly throughout New England. For a brief moment I was proud of Boston's world class hospitals. How wonderful that we would be able to help. The children in our town were sent home from school. And then the plane hit at the Pentagon, the plane crashed in PA, the towers fell in front of our eyes. And a palpable pallor fell over the city of Boston. For the first time in 10 years the sky was empty. The constant roar of jets and traffic was now replaced by silence. The jets were grounded, everything and everyone came to a stop. The F16's took to the air. From my porch I would watch them as the circled the city, turning wide as they cruised along the harbor and up the coast and coming back again around the west side of the airport. My husband called to say he would be coming home. Their would be no airlifts, no lives to save. We gathered in the street with the neighbors to talk and to pray, not knowing what else to do with ourselves. We lit candles and cried. We called every person we knew with a connection to NYC to make sure they and their families were safe. We flew the flag from our porches, attached flags to our cars, and we prayed some more.

God Bless our brave soldiers who are fighting this war on terror and God Bless the men and women and families of September 11th. I will never forget.

What to do?

I went to bed early again last night. For the last 2 nights I have rushed through my evening chores so that I could get into bed early. Monday night I slept really well and did feel refreshed in the morning but of course it did not last. Last night DP woke me up twice. Once because I was snoring and once because I was on my back. I should add here that I am trying to sleep on my left side only in preparation for the months to come. I like to sleep on my tummy. That won't work for much longer and by the 4th month or so you have to be careful about sleeping on your back because of blood clots or something like that - read that when I was pg with DS. So anyway, I figured if I started now, by the 4th or 5th month I'll be used to it. Well it is not working. If my body has to sleep on it's side, then it wants it to be the right side not the left! But I read that the left is better for lowering BP. Anyway, last night I still got some sleep although I would have had more if someone had not woken me up.

So now here I am at work and the 2 PM hour is creeping up and so is the nausea and the fatigue. I don't know what to do. My office is the size of a matchbox and no one around here closes their doors (we don't have full walls due to security cameras) so closing my door will be suspicious. I don't know how to get some discreet rest. Of course my boss would support anything I need which is nice. I guess it's just the part about hiding it from the staff since I don't plan to disclose the pregnancy until I have to. I have a folding camp chair that I am going to try out at home this weekend to see if I could nap in it. I think it will fit in my office and then I can just close it up and stick it in the corner. I have a travel pillow and blanket too. Just with no full walls people might hear me snore and I'll bet the big boss will be able to see me on the cameras. That will be freaky. But what am I going to do? If the fatigue keeps up I will have no choice and if people find out sooner than I want them to then I'll just have to deal with it.

I can't wait for next week's appointment. I'm sure it will put me at ease on a lot of things.
